The World’s Top 10 Best Images of Plants in Shoes

This might just be me, but as a kid I hated just one single thing more than the dentist, and that was shopping for school shoes! Boring shops, full of boring shoes, with boring people fitting them, and boring conversions about why that shoe I was trying on isn’t “quite right for him” boring, boring, boring. And to be honest I still hate shoe shopping! But I do have to wonder what ever happened to my old school shoes. The truth is they had become worn out and had to be thrown away, but maybe, just maybe someone picked them up from the top of the dustbin and did something very special with them indeed….

Loft ladders – Expand Your Horizons

Make the most of your roof space by installing a loft ladder/attic ladder.

Loft space goes unused in many homes, and yet it has the potential to free the rest of your home from clutter and hoarded items. Even if you’re not using your loft as storage space, you need to be able to access it now and then for maintenance reasons. Rather than bringing in ladders from the garage or shed, why not just install good quality loft ladders?

Loft space goes unused in many homes, and yet it has the potential to free the rest of your home from clutter and hoarded items. Even if you’re not using your loft as storage space, you need to be able to access it now and then for maintenance reasons. Rather than bringing in ladders from the garage or shed, why not just install good quality loft ladders?
Loft ladders – access all areas
There’s nothing quite like the storage space a loft provides. If you’re lucky enough to have a fully boarded, water-tight loft with electricity installed, you can store all manner of things up there, and loft ladders give you the easy access you need. Increasing numbers of people are choosing to make their loft space more accessible by adding fold-away loft ladders which are unobtrusive, but highly practical. If you’re planning to improve your loft space, here are some things to think about:

  • Building regulations – you must have building approval in order to turn your loft space into a habitable area such as a bedroom or study. This is because of fire regulations, and loft ladders are not considered suitable access or escape points. If you are thinking of converting your loft, you’ll need to install a staircase that meets building regulations.
  • Insulation – you may be installing loft ladders because you want to be able to access the roof space easily so that you can improve insulation. Research shows that around 25% of heat is lost through the roof, so additional insulation could help you to reduce your heating bills. Loft ladders will allow you to go up and down to the loft easily and safely to complete the job.
  • Boarding – many lofts, particularly in older buildings, aren’t boarded. This means that it can be dangerous to walk around in the loft and there’s less space for storage. For a reasonable amount of money, you can board your loft and install loft ladders. These two simple jobs make your loft instantly accessible and useful – and may even add value to your home in the long-term.
  • Electricity – if you ever decide to convert your loft, you’ll need to run your electricity system into the roof space, but even if you’re just using it as storage, it makes sense to have a light so that you can see what you’re doing. Having light makes it far easier just to climb up the loft ladders to add something else to your storage or, more importantly, to find something that’s already up there. Extra lighting circuits should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Falls from Ladders Fall Away: Latest Figures Show 11 per cent Decline

FOR the second year running, figures released by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) reveal that the number of injuries involving the use of ladders and step ladders has fallen from 2132 in 2007/08 to 2011 in 2008/09 and 1817 in 2009/10. This despite an average overall increase of 51 per cent in the total number of falls from height reported to HSE over the same period. The figure of 1817 compares with 2631 ladder-related injuries reported to HSE in 2001/02, a drop of 31 per cent.

According to the Ladder Association, no one single initiative is responsible, but rather a combination of initiatives driven by the association itself and in collaboration with other agencies, in particular HSE and the Access Industry Forum (AIF), of which it is a founder member.

“Whatever the sceptics may say, it cannot be denied that these welcome statistics coincide with a significant increase in the number of users successfully completing a Ladder Association training course,” comments Chris Ball, chairman of the association. “Since the training scheme was first launched in November 2005, the year-on-year increase, after an initial exponential growth in the first few years, has been consistent at around 25 per cent for the last couple of years.”

“We have constantly promoted the message that if it’s right to use a ladder, use the right ladder and get trained to use it safely” and that message finally seems to be getting through, especially when it’s supported by campaigns like Don’t be a ladder lightweight aimed at experienced ladder users with a jaundiced view of training.”

“We are also the first to acknowledge that HSE’s Ladder Exchange has had a major impact in raising awareness and understanding of the need to inspect and maintain ladders and stepladders to keep them safe for use. Actively supported by the association since its launch in 2007, the campaign has helped remove thousands of ‘dodgy’ and damaged ladders from the workplace.”

“The Ladder Exchange has proved to be an excellent example of what can be achieved when the trade body, the regulator and the industry at large work towards a common goal.”

“Neither can the work of the Access Industry Forum (AIF) be overlooked. Since 2004 it has provided an effective platform for the Ladder Association to address a wide and varied audience at events like the Safety & Health Expo and the IOSH Conference and Exhibition. These have all contributed to driving home the association’s message about safety and best practice.”

“In tandem with other organisations, the association is making a difference. Promoting the need for training to hardened ladder users was never going to be easy. It’s an educational process and that takes time. However, we’re making measurable progress and the statistics seem to underline that.” This first appeared on the Ladder-Association website.

Only Loft Ladders & Stone Trees stand tall and strong.

Now to be honest, this started from a little bit of day dreaming about maybe writing an article on how strong and tall loft ladders can be. But then it went from thinking about it, to looking for images for strong and tall…

…What was seen there is not for the fair of eyes & the words of this blog that is a point of fact! But what was hidden away there was something most people have never heard about and even less seen.

Today we are off to mighty Russia to take a look at the Stone trees in Yakutsk

The first thing you think when you see these is how breath taking nature can be. And the truth is that this place is more known for it’s large fossils that people have found and also from its various organisms that seem to only live in that part of the world.  But it’s also known (just not so much) for the large free & naturaly standing stone pillars that from an aerial view can look like trees made of stone! And to be fair they are stunning to look at even up close.

This place is considered to be one of the most (price wise) expensive natural places to see in the world. With plane tickets to see it starting at £500 it’s one that not a lot of people will get to ever see. Which if you ask me is a real shame.

What do you think? Is it worth the price of the plane ticket?

As always if you like this post then PLEASE SHARE IT!
