Russian Burger King wants "IT" banned because Pennywise “is a copy” of Ronald McDonald

“IT” is a 2017 American supernatural horror film directed by Andy Muschietti, based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The first of a planned duology, the film tells the story of seven children in Derry, Maine, who are terrorized by the eponymous being, only to face their own personal demons in the process. Upon release, the film set numerous box office records and has grossed over $482 million worldwide.

Burger King in Russia has filed a claim in Russian court to get the movie “It” banned from national screens.

Via Newsweek, the Russian financial magazine Vedomosti is reporting that Burger King has claimed that It is a violation of Russia’s advertising laws because Pennywise is “is an exact copy” of Ronald McDonald, the longtime mascot of the King’s chief fast-foot rival, McDonalds. It gets better: the filing includes Burger King’s belief that part of the similarities between the two clowns include “the color range and the [balloons] with which the clown lures children.”

Is there really any similarity? Or is Burger King just having a case of Clown mascot envy? You be the judge.

Review 1: Hot Toys Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm Collectible Figure

This was part of my September 2017 haul (see the toy blog post HERE)

In Terminator Genisys, the judgment day has arrived and more than 3 billion human lives have been lost in the attacks by Skynet. Survivors were captured and put into camps for exterminations. In 2029, Human Resistance leader John Connor has led a final intense battle against Skynet and its menacing armies of Endoskeletons in order to eliminate the hellish artificial intelligence.

This is actually the first Terminator endoskeleton by Hot Toys that I got. Hot Toys have released three versions earlier: there was the Terminator 2 T-800 Endoskeleton (MMS33) followed by a Battle-Damaged Endoskeleton only available as a Japanese exclusive and the T-700 from Terminator Salvation (MMS94) but I was never compelled to get any of them until now. Given the improvements Hot Toys has made over time in refining their products and improving their quality, I figured this was the best time as any to get hold of a Terminator endoskeleton.

Packaging is the standard shoebox design. Remove the lid / cover and the figure and its accessories can be located in the plastic tray inside.

Instructions on how to insert the batteries (included) and activate the LED light-up eyes are given, as well as limitations to head, jaw and neck movements.

Waist, arms and leg movements are also covered. The changing of hands is not the usual pop out and pop in method. This one involves three pistons which have to be removed as well.

Besides the relaxed robot hands that come on the figure, you also get a pair of fists and a pair of hands for holding his weapon, an Endorifle. Accessory include: square-shaped figure base (recycled) with movie logo and Endoskeleton nameplate

The square-shaped figure base is actually a recycled display stand originally designed and used for the Hot Toys MMS DX01 figure light-up display stand that came with Deluxe Joker from The Dark Knight and MMS DX02 Batman display base – you can see the pics HERE and HERE. You can see the lights at the two corners in the picture below but the electronic components have been all removed. There is no on/off switch even though there is a battery compartment located underneath the base. This isn’t the first time this has happened. The Hot Toys MMS403 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 1/6th scale Chirrut Îmwe Collectible Figure Deluxe Version features an exclusive diorama figure base that was used previously with Hot Toys MMS90 Movie Masterpiece Series 1/6th scale 14-inch Predator collectible figure – see pics HERE.

Now on to the Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton Collectible Figure. It specially features an authentic and detailed likeness of the Endoskeleton as seen in Terminator Genisys with approximately 33 cm tall movie-accurate sculpture including complicated mechanical details throughout the steel-looking body with specially applied multiple layers of metallic paint on skeleton plus weathering effects. The figure is supposed to have over 26 points of articulations; and there are LED-lighted eyes (red light, battery operated, batteries included).

The Hot Toys Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm Collectible Figure comes with relaxed hands attached. Like i mentioned earlier, this figure is NOT die-cast and we should be thankful for that. Even in this lighter state, the figure cannot stand on its own and needs help standing. I believe that if this figure was die-cast, it will be too top heavy and topple over everytime. I am also glad Hot Toys didn’t go with articulated fingers because they are not good for holding weapons as the flexibility of the joints will ultimately compromise the rigidity of the grasp.

When the Terminator first appeared in 1984, the cyborg assassin was only fully revealed in its skeletal form to Sarah Connor towards the end of the film after its flesh was burned off completely in a powerful explosion. It seemed like it couldn’t be terminated as it relentlessly pursued her. The sight of the T-800 in its determined mission to assassinate Sarah Connor was quite terrifying in a way.

Looking at this latest Hot Toys Terminator Endoskeleton and comparing it with pictures of the earlier versions, I must say this updated version is the best by far and I’m very pleased with it.

Check out the close-up shots taken of this Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton Collectible Figure. The details are pretty astonishing and once again, Hot Toys has delivered in quality, giving us another movie masterpiece.
